No word yet on whether or not a Kelowna pedophile released from prison this week will stay behind bars before his immigration hearing.

73 year old Dieter Wittwer moved to Canada in 1962 and was sentenced to two years in jail in 2006 for sexually touching four young girls in Kelowna.

Paula Faber with the Immigration and Refugee Board says there was a hearing today, and Wittwer's freedom is is still up in the air.

"The Immigration Division member has not yet made a decision whether or not detention for Mr. Wittwer will continue or if he will be released.  The decision will be coming probably very quickly because Mr. Whittwer, if he is held in detention, would be coming before the Immigration Division in 7 days anyways."

Faber tells us, "If detention continues beyond that, he would come before the Immigration Division every 30 days to see if detention should continue."

A native of Germany, Wittwer could face deportation because of his criminal past.
